Phil Barrett (Flow interactive-South Africa)
The business value of UX design
To make UX happen, you need to demonstrate its business value. In most organisations, faith in the importance of good user experience won’t cut it: you need some proof if you want your UX initiative to survive.
The right user experience will increase revenues and reduce costs. And if you measure and calculate the bottom line impact of your UX projects, you can begin to teach your organisation that UX is a profitable key feature, not a cost to be minimised. You might even surprise yourself about just how valuable your work really is.
Keeping the bottom line in mind is also healthy for agile innovation teams as they hunt for a compelling new product or service. Calculating the value of user responses in rands and cents focusses the team in the viability of their new product, and drives them to explore new ideas.
In this talk, Phil will look at:
- Classic ways to make a business case for the value of UX – and some examples
- Strategies for using getting UX to take hold in your organisation
- “Innovation accounting”: Some of the latest thinking from the field of lean UX
